IT support will never ask for passwords or authentication codes.

Here are some tips to ensure that you do not fall for such scams:

  • Verify the source: Contact IT directly before clicking links or sharing info.
  • Never share passwords or MFA codes: These are for your use only.
  • Enable extra security features: Use biometrics, one-time passwords, or MFA wherever possible.
  • Be alert for phishing: Unexpected requests for codes or passwords are likely scams.
  • Report suspicious activity: Notify your IT or security team immediately if something seems off.

Our Board relies on technology for learning, communication, and operations. This interconnected environment makes us vulnerable to cyder threats. Our systems house a variety of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This information can be accidentally leaked or targeted for by cybercriminals for profit. School boards must ensure that personally identifiable information is stored, processed, and transmitted securely.

Common Threats:

  • Phishing: Fake emails trick users into giving up credentials.
  • Ransomware: Hackers lock data until payment is made.
  • Social Engineering: Impersonating staff or vendors to steal logins.
  • Network Vulnerabilities: Open access for students and apps can create risks.

Threats are becoming more frequent and sophisticated. Everyone plays a role in protecting data and systems. Stay informed and practice good cybersecurity habits.
