Future Film Makers: St. Patrick’s Communications Students Win Film Festival
A group of communications technology students at St. Patrick’s Catholic High School were recently recognized for their work at the Kineto Film Festival in Forest.
Grade 12 student Colin Demers won for his documentary ‘Technology in Agriculture,’ while Grade 10 students Byron Chu, Azen VanderHeide, Erik Vardy, Zain Ruffo, Sullivan Laird and Rio Jorge won for their short film ‘Cold Blade.’
The youth competition showcased locally produced short films, each under three minutes long, created by teenagers. Films could be produced by a single student, group or class.
Mrs. Woodward’s Grade 10 communications class submitted six original fiction films, while her Grade 12 students produced two documentaries, showcasing their creativity, skill, and dedication.
Erica Rombouts, a graduate of the St. Patrick’s communications program who recently completed her first year of film and broadcast studies at Niagara College, also won.
The films were screened at the historic Kineto Theatre, one of the world's oldest continuously operating movie theatres, which has been open since 1917.
