Grade 9 Students Explore Future Careers on Take Our Kids to Work Day
On Nov 4, St. Clair Catholic schools and the Catholic Education Centre opened their doors to dozens of Grade 9 students for Take Our Kids to Work Day.
The annual initiative gives students across Canada the opportunity to shadow a family member or friend to explore potential career paths and gain hands-on experience in the working world.
It was an especially busy day at Holy Trinity Catholic School, which welcomed four students from St. Patrick’s Catholic High School.
Elizabeth Maure shadowed her mom Carrie Maure, an educational assistant at Holy Trinity. Elizabeth says she would like to work with children in the future.
“I’ve learned that being an EA can be difficult, but it’s really nice to help out kids with needs and help them learn in different ways,” says Elizabeth.
Irelynn Shaw shadowed kindergarten teacher Janine Aquillina, her friend’s mother, because she is also interested in becoming a kindergarten teacher.
“I’ve learned so much throughout the day,” says Irelynn. “It’s a fun job. What stood out to me today was just getting to know the kids and being able to help them.”
Holy Trinity graduate Kenzie Lo spent the day shadowing her mother Sarah Lo, an adult supervisor. Fellow Holy Trinity alumna Hayley Simpson returned to her former school to learn from custodian Pat DeRidder.
At St. Philip, secretary Stephanie Maxwell was shadowed by her son, Kesler Morris, while Grade 1 teacher Kristal Vandenberg welcomed former student Lorelei Terpstra to her class.
St. Clair Catholic would like to thank all the Grade 9 students who chose to spend the day in our schools and Catholic Education Centre, as well as the staff who guided and supported them. We hope it was a memorable experience filled with valuable learning opportunities!
