KinderSTART Welcomes Future Students and Families Across St. Clair Catholic

St. Clair Catholic schools were delighted to welcome approximately 500 little KinderSTARs and their families to this year’s KinderSTART events across the district. The strong turnout reflects the excitement families feel as they prepare for their child’s first step into school.

KinderSTART gave children the opportunity to explore their future classrooms, meet caring educators, and take part in fun, hands-on activities. For parents and guardians, the events offered helpful information about school routines, available supports, and the many opportunities that help children thrive in their early years.

Local community partners also came together to support the KinderSTART events, helping families feel confident, welcomed, and connected as their children begin their school journey. Representatives from local parishes, child care providers, public health units, treatment centres, and settlement workers who support newcomer families were on hand to greet families, share helpful information, and answer questions.

Their presence allowed families to learn more about the wide range of supports available, including health and developmental services, as well as community and cultural resources. Working together, these partners helped create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere where families felt comfortable, informed, and supported as they take this exciting first step in their child’s educational journey.

“Starting school is an important milestone for children and families,” said Lisa Demers, Director of Education for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board. “At St. Clair Catholic, we are committed to ensuring every child begins their school journey in a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment where they feel a strong sense of belonging. Our Kindergarten classrooms focus on nurturing achievement, building confidence, and helping students grow in faith as they begin their journey of learning.”

Families shared many hopes for their children as they begin school. Above all, they want their child to feel welcomed, make friends, and enjoy coming to school each day. Parents also hope their children will grow in confidence and independence while developing the early skills that support learning and personal growth.

St. Clair Catholic schools are ready to support both children and families through this transition. Kindergarten educators create caring, inclusive classrooms where students build friendships, develop confidence, and learn through play-based experiences that support early literacy, numeracy, and social development. Schools also work closely with families and community partners to ensure every child receives the support they need to succeed.

Ready to register? Kindergarten Registration for September 2026 is still open, and families are encouraged to register as soon as possible as we prepare to welcome the next group of young learners into our Catholic school communities.
