Living Our Faith Through Service at St. Clair Catholic
St. Anne Catholic School in Sarnia helped community members in need by holding a food drive in support of Brightside Café. The morning drop-in centre located in downtown Sarnia is a safe space for vulnerable individuals to grab a meal and hot coffee, make art or music, or simply talk to somebody. The fundraiser was organized by teacher Sian Oliver’s Grade 3/4 class, who designed posters and made daily announcements to promote donations.
As part of their Halloween themed spirit week, the Wellness team at St. Micheal Catholic School in Bright’s Grove organized a fundraiser to ‘Sare Away Hunger.’ The school community of 207 students collected over 1000 cans! The items were donated to the Inn of the Good Shepherd in Sarnia.
The school community at St. Joseph Catholic School in Corunna came together to collect stuffed animals for children receiving treatment at Bluewater Health. The initiative was a tremendous success, with students and staff donating approximately 75 stuffies, enough to fill the back of a large SUV. A special thank you to Mrs. Westendorp for sharing the fundraiser with the school and delivering donations to the hospital, where they will provide comfort to young patients.
With October being recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hairstyling and aesthetics students at Ursuline College Chatham wanted to make a difference. The students hosted a "Paint a Pinkie" fundraiser, inviting participants to have a fingernail painted pink in support of the cause. The event raised $100, which was donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
The UCC Cares Social Justice Team has been busy since the start of the school year. In addition to organizing the annual Lancers Scare Hunger food drive, students assembled blessing bags for community members in need, which were distributed in partnership with Reach Out Chatham-Kent.
On Oct. 21, St. Clair Catholic schools recognized School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Students at St. Joseph Catholic School in Corunna said a special thank you by presenting handmade cards and a Tim Horton's Gift Card to bus drivers.
