St. Clair Catholic Donates Surplus Furniture and Books to Canadian Food for Children – Chatham-Kent
Surplus furniture and books from St. Clair Catholic schools are getting a second life, helping to support students in developing countries. The desks, chairs and books collected have been donated to Canadian Food for Children – Chatham-Kent and will be shipped to schools in Honduras.
“It is part of our Catholic identity to care for one another and help when we are in a position to give back,” says Lisa Demers, CEO/CEdO of St. Clair Catholic. “We are grateful these educational resources will find a new purpose in classrooms around the world, supporting students and enhancing their learning environments.”
CFFC-CK was formed in 1997 and has been collecting and sending food, clothing, medical and school supplies and other needed items to the main warehouse in Mississauga. From there it is loaded into shipping containers and trucked to Halifax, for shipment to Africa; and the Port of Miami, for shipment to Central and South America. The volunteers of CFFC-CK have supported missions in such countries as Tanzania, Sierra Leone, El Salvador and Zambia, among others.
Dr. Andrew Simone of Toronto, and his wife Joan, in response to a request from Mother Teresa, founded Canadian Food for Children in Canada in 1981.
