St. Clair Catholic Students Recognized for Innovation, Sustainability, and Leadership at Lambton College Enactus Event

Teams from six St. Clair Catholic schools brought outstanding creativity, compassion, and entrepreneurial spirit to Lambton College on Thursday, April 30, as they competed in this year’s Enactus One Future competition. Their efforts stood out, with St. Clair Catholic projects earning all three top spots.

Enactus Canada, a registered Canadian charity, challenges students to address real‑world issues through innovation and entrepreneurship. Over a 10‑week period, teams identify a community need and design a meaningful solution aligned with one or more United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The experience encourages students to think boldly, act with empathy, and develop the leadership skills they will carry into the future.

This year’s event was supported once again by Bluewater Power, whose generosity continues to strengthen the Enactus program at Lambton College. The top three projects received additional investments to help expand and sustain their work: $500 for first place, $300 for second place, and $200 for third place.

The Stitch & Fix Fidgets team from Holy Family Catholic School in Wallaceburg earned first place for their thoughtful and innovative project addressing both environmental and student wellness needs.

Recognizing the growing issue of unwanted stuffed animals ending up in landfills, the team developed a creative solution: transforming these items into low‑sound fidgets that support students with focus, sensory regulation, and emotional grounding. The fidgets will be sold in schools, with proceeds directed toward additional mental health initiatives. Their project aligns with UN Global Goal 3 (Good Health and Well‑Being) and Goal 15 (Life on Land).

“I am incredibly proud of how our students came together as one team. They listened to one another, shared ideas freely, and supported each step of the process with care and respect. Watching them collaborate with such creativity and purpose was inspiring.” said Zak Rybansky, teacher at Holy Family Catholic School.

Other Finalists

  • Second Place: The Plarn Initiative from Holy Rosary Catholic School, Wyoming
  • Third Place: The Fairwear Clothing Drive from St. John Fisher Catholic School, Forest

All participating teams showcased exceptional teamwork, innovation, and a genuine desire to make a difference, qualities that reflect the heart of Catholic education.

Pathways to Success Teacher Dan Cicchelli praised the students’ efforts, saying “Our students continue to amaze us with their vision, compassion, and determination. These projects show what can happen when young people are empowered to lead with purpose. They are not just imagining a better future… they’re building it.”

Congratulations to every student who took part in this year’s Enactus program. Your ideas are already strengthening our communities, and we cannot wait to see where your gifts take you next.
