St. Joseph's Teaches Students Math Is Not So Scary

The Halloween season can provide plenty of frights, but St. Joseph Catholic School in Corunna wanted to ensure math wasn’t one of them!

On Oct 22, the school held a ‘Math is Not So Scary Night’ featuring interactive math games for students in Grades 1 through 4. Student leaders from intermediate grades helped facilitate the stations. The activities were prepared with the help of St. Clair Catholic’s Math Team.

The evening was a ‘scary’ success, with more than 100 students and their families in attendance.

Families enjoyed pizza and treats as they filled their math passports at the 11 activity tables including Telling Time, Math Search, Connect Four, Making Shapes and Memorizing Locations. Students and families were encouraged to dress up to get into the Halloween spirit. Several families received a copy of Bedtime Math, and each family was given a take-home bag to continue learning at home.
