Students Wrap Up Three Weeks of Summer Learning

Students are leaving St. Clair Catholic’s summer learning camp with math skills and memories.

The three-week program held at St. Teresa of Calcutta, Christ the King and Holy Trinity Catholic schools officially wrapped up on Friday, July 24.

A total of 88 students across Chatham-Kent and Sarnia- Lambton heading into Grade 3 participated in the camp with an emphasis on strengthening numeracy skills.

“The past three weeks have been incredibly rewarding,” says Danielle Restivo, Summer Learning Principal at Holy Trinity. “It has been a joy to watch students grow in their confidence with math while building new friendships and discovering their own strengths. Our teachers, Educational Assistants, and Child and Youth Worker created a caring, engaging environment where students felt supported every day. I hope each student leaves summer learning with great memories, new confidence, and a love of learning that continues into the school year.”

Math lessons were taught in the morning, while the afternoons featured fun activities focusing on other subjects like science, art and physical education. The program also included a daily well-being lesson.

On Wednesday, students at Holy Trinity participated in a tennis clinic hosted by Tennis For Kids. Director Brian Clark says the goal of his program is to teach kids the basics of tennis while encouraging them to live an active lifestyle and spend less time on screens.

“We just hope that the children have a fun experience,” says Clark. “We don’t expect every one of these kids to play tennis their whole life, but one of the beauties of tennis is you only need two people, three balls, and a public court which Lambton County has all sorts of.”

Each cabin wrapped up the program with an end of camp celebration on Friday, recognizing the learning, growth and friendships built over the past three weeks.
