UCC Lancers Win 6th Straight LKSSAA Girls Rugby Championship
The Ursuline College Chatham Lancers continue to set the standard when it comes to high school rugby in the region.
UCC captured its sixth consecutive LKSSAA title on Wednesday, defeating the LCCVI Lancers from Petrolia 38-7 at Ursuline. It marks the fourth straight year the two teams have met in the Lambton-Kent final.
Zoie Knight scored four tries, Robyn Mann and Audrey DeNijs each added one, while Akira Labadie kicked four converts.
The Lancer were fueled by strong alumni support with more than 20 former players returning to cheer on the current squad.
Not only has UCC developed a powerhouse rugby program in Southwestern Ontario, but they’ve also established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the province.
The Lancers are set to make their 13th appearance at OFSSA since starting their girls’ rugby program in 2009. Last year, the team reached the podium for the first time in school history, winning provincial bronze. They were seeded ninth heading into the tournament.
UCC will look to bring home another medal from Lindsay where the OFSAA Girls’ AAA Rugby Championship will be held June 4-6.
