Elementary French Immersion

We’re excited to welcome new families to our French Immersion community!

All Catholic applicants for Elementary French Immersion are asked to submit a Registration Request Form.

Because interest in our Junior Kindergarten French Immersion program is high, a random selection process may be used to ensure fair access to available spaces.

Key Intake Periods

Early Intake: Up to December 16
Second Intake: December 17 – January 30 (based on remaining spaces)

If the number of Registration Requests is greater than the number of available spaces in either intake, a random selection will be conducted. Remaining applicants will be placed in a pool and may be randomly offered a space if one becomes available.

After January 30:
Registration Requests are still welcome and students will be accommodated as space allows.

Non-Catholic Applicants

Non-Catholic families interested in English or French Immersion programs should complete the Non‑Catholic Intent to Register Form.

Important Notes
  • All grades in French Immersion require a Registration Request Form.
  • Some grades may have limited space due to program capacity.
  • A helpful registration flowchart is available to guide families through the process.

If a parent/guardian or student is Catholic, OR, Religious affiliation is recognized in the SEE of Rome, listed below.  Then please proceed to "Registration Request".

Otherwise, you may still be considered for admission to a St. Clair Catholic School.

Please review the Non-Catholic information and Intent form here.

Please complete the Registration Request form for each child(s), regardless of grade.

As accommodation spaces are limited, this is an expression of interest in the program only.  If selected, a full registration application, including providing the required documentation and attestation, will need to be completed.  The Board's Admission Team will communicate on your Registration Request's status as information becomes available.

This form is intended only for Catholic applicants.  Non-Catholics must use the Intent to Register.

Why is SCCDSB implementing caps for their French Immersion Program?
French Immersion schools in our board have seen a steady increase in student interest. While we’re excited about this growth, each school has a limited number of classrooms and staff available to support the program.

How do I register my JK child for an SCCDSB French Immersion (FI) Program?
Due to the high number of registrations for our Junior Kindergarten French Immersion program, we may need to implement a random selection system to ensure fair allocation of spaces. Parents who wish to enroll their child in the French Immersion program must complete our Registration Request form. For more information and to complete the Registration Request form please scan the QR code below using your mobile phone. If you need assistance, call 1-866-336-6139 and press 2, or contact us here

Will I increase my child’s chances of being admitted if I apply early?
Not for the December intake period. All Requests for Registration collected during the first intake period will have an equal chance if a random selection process is required. The second intake period will be open only if there are remaining spaces after the December intake. If open, all Requests will be considered equally at the January intake deadline.

When will I know if my child has a secured a spot in the French Immersion program?
If there are a greater number of requests than available capacity, a random selection will be conducted following in intake period’s deadline. Parents/guardians will be notified of their child’s placement via the email provided on the Registration Request form. If selected, you must follow the instructions in the email to accept the placement. Failure to respond within the specified time will be considered a decline.

What happens if I do not secure a spot?
If you do not secure a spot through the random selection process, your request will be added to a pool. You will be notified via email if a spot becomes available. A random selection will be conducted from the pool for the particular school and grade that becomes available.

I have another child who attends a French Immersion program with SCCDSB, will their sibling be able to attend the same school?
Siblings have priority placement in the same school as their older sibling if they complete the Registration Request by the first intake deadline, in December. If submitted after this deadline the request will be added to our pool, and no spot is guaranteed. Siblings must attend the same school together (overlap) for at least 1 year.

If my child secures a spot in the program, when do I finalize my child’s registration?
All applicants who have submitted a Registration Request will receive further instruction via email after the intake period which will include instruction on how to complete the boards online registration process. Once the school receives your full online registration, they will contact you to arrange a time to come into the school and finalize your registration.

If my child does not receive a spot after the intake period, can I register at my designated English Catholic school while remaining on the waitlist?
Yes, families on an FI program request pool may remain on the list while attending another school. If a spot becomes available, a random selection from the pool is conducted.

My child is not in JK, but I would like to enroll them in an FI program school. What are the entry points for French Immersion programs, and how do they vary?
Admittance into an FI program for different grade levels varies based on whether the student has previous French language experience, and whether space within the grade is available. Please visit our French Immersion Elementary Registration page to review the flowchart on entry into an FI program after JK.

Do I need to be Catholic?
If your Religious affiliation is not recognized in the SEE of Rome, you may still be considered for admission to a French Immersion St. Clair Catholic School. Other Faith Intent to Register submissions will be accepted and placed in a pool.  Final decisions may take until early September.

St. Clair Catholic District School Board currently offers a successful French Immersion program in several of our schools for students from Kindergarten through Grade 12.

We believe students enrolled in this program not only acquire strong language skills in Canada’s two official languages, but also receive a rich academic foundation formed in an affirming Catholic faith community.
