OPTIONS Program

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board is pleased to partner with the Lambton Kent District School Board, St. Clair College, and Community Living Chatham-Kent to offer the OPTIONS Program in Chatham-Kent. 

What is the Options Program?

The OPTIONS program is a two-year alternative education program for students aged 18-21 with developmental disabilities who are capable of attaining paid employment if given extra support in the areas of work and independent living.

Location

The Options Program is housed at St. Clair College – Thames Campus in Chatham. Students are registered as LKDSB students but are able to access many of the facilities available at the college.

Admission Requirements
  • Completed 4 years at the secondary level
  • Graduated with a Certificate of Achievement, OSSC or OSSD
  • Identified with a developmental disability
  • Have completed previous co-op experiences (either school or community-based)
  • Be able to work independently
Application Process

Students who are interested in applying to the Options Program are encouraged to meet with the resource teacher at school to discuss the application process. Options is a competitive program and there are limited spots. The candidate will go through an interview process and will be notified if they are successful in securing a spot in the Options Program.

Options Curriculum

Co-op

On Monday and Tuesday, students are out on co-op placements. The staff at the Options Program and Community Living work closely at the beginning of the year to secure a placement in the students' chosen place of business. Hours will vary depending on the employers' needs. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from co-op on Monday and Tuesday. Public transport training is available for those students that need it.

In Class

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, students are in class at St. Clair College. School bus transportation is provided to the college. The school day runs from 8:15 - 2:15pm. Areas of study include:
